Yesterday I had the second round of cross country, boy was I nervous- I almost wet my pants. I got ready at the start line. So nervous I bit my lip so many times now I have a red mark around my mouth. The starter bang went and I sprinted down the line. At that point I thought I had bet the girl faster than me but I was wrong, she came racing up beside me. About 5 minutes later I crossed the finish line and came a whopping 6th place! Oh yeah I forgot to tell you that it was it between all of Kaiapoi and I mean all the schools in Kaiapoi. Every one in my group was bigger than me! and I beat most of them! So that tells me that big things come in small packages. Now I have made in to the next round! Yay, I am so excited!.
I am tempted to find the book to read, no wonder every one who reads it is so fascinated and is always recommending the book.
So far………………
Prim is so lucky to have Katnis to save her next how will Prim fend for her and her mother. Can Prim even cook for them, and then she also has to feed the cat, all of those chores were Katnis not Prims. How will Prim do all of that? And will Katnis survive? They are the questions that is in my head at the moment.
I think gifting your attention is giving a person your attention to give them that attention you will have to make that choice. Laugh and play together.
I think laughing and playing together means laughing at the right moment when you know it is and playing with everyone and not leaving any one out.But when you laugh you know what you are laughing about and you know when to stop laughing.
This means that you can manage your self and you are an independent learner. An example is using everyone to help create a picture because if you did not let them help you won’t feel good and the other person will be feeling sad. I think big ups mean put ups because Mr Maindonald explained about put ups. This means that when some one does some thing good we congratulate them and if we do that to a new person they will make other people feel welcome and it’s about giving people encouragement. An example would be if some one made a good coffee and that is the best one you have had all day, you could say that the best of all,and they might be pleased.
Not long after lunch rock and roll yippy! if you haven’t heard by now, here in Christchurch we have had a few shakes that haven’t been so much fun. At 1:26pm we had a shake and in a flash we were all under our desks again. The sound was enough to get you under your desk. It interrupted our reading of the book Extinction of the human race. Creepy!!!! We looked up on the quake site and it was a 4.6 that was 10km deep and about 6km away from New Brighton. We hope they are alright but I think they are because my Uncle already texted me and he lives there. He said “I hope it didn’t shake your braces off.” Very funny! Just in case you didn’t know I’ve just got braces, they are clear and blue. I’m going to keep the blue throughout the treatment.
Congratulations Laura, what mindset do you think helped you persist in the race. You could have given up when you noticed you were being beaten but you didn't. What helped you make this choice? I am very impressed.
Great work Hannah, I am so pleased to see the questions you are thinking about as you read. It is an amazing book isn't it? ...and the more you think the better you will enjoy the book. I think I'm hooked because I want to see how Katniss' relationships develop.
Thanks for this thinking Joel! Even though your ideas seem simple they make a HUGE difference to any learning environment, both in and out of school. You are doing a detailed job of providing reasons and explanations for your comments.
A fantastic example of finding humour in a stressful situation. Those Habits of Mind skills pop up all the time!
When I was a kid my dad used to say, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
I think this analogy is probably better suited to boys - bottom line though is yay you and your perseverance. A fine achievement well earned,.
Hi Joel - funny you should say that. I was in the USA and I couldn't find a good coffee anywhere, then one evening I came across a coffee cart in the open space at a mall. It was so good I walked back and told the young lady it was the best coffee I had had in the States. I really let her know how much I appreciated it. What I didn't expect was her reaction - she nearly cried she was so happy to be told.
So gifting your attention and your thanks (big ups - put ups) is really very important.
Like your thinking Joel.
Hi Hannah - I think KBS kids are developing resilience as finding humor in stressful situations is a sign of true resilience!
Like your thinking.
